Run That By Me Again...

` Finally!! Something that has nothing to do with my personal life! As I've rifled through my Yahoo mail, I caught this neato Editor's Summary in the 30 March 2006 edition of Nature....

During sleep, neurons in the rat hippocampus are known to replay sequences of activity that took place when the rat was awake. A new study, in rats running around a track, eating and grooming, shows that replay also occurs repeatedly during the awake state, and that behavioural sequences are replayed in reverse order.
` Theories of spatial learning have previously suggested that reverse replay might be useful. Replay during the awake state might also explain in part why learning can be more effective if learning sessions are spaced out in time rather than clustered together, why hyperactivity causes learning problems, and why simply being awake and resting can help learning.

` No wonder I had difficulty learning - I was constantly agitated, panicking, being teased and irritated, and running around aimlessly! It's no surprise that I find studies like these to be interesting!
` Unfortunately, I had to spend years of burning my brain out before I realized that I really need to pace myself if I am to retain knowledge and understanding. Even worse, I used to beat myself up after cramming my brain and not gaining a thing! (Though I don't think I would have if my dad had not constantly shamed me.)
` Well, that's cheery. Gotta speed!
