The Destroyer Has Returned!

` I know, I've been slacking with my science-and-whatnot posts and merely putting pictures in - that is because I don't have a hard drive to put them on right now. I thought if I saved them online at ImageShack, they could at least have a temporary home while I get a new one.
` So, yes, I would rather spend my computer time backing up images from my CDC (that's 'Crappy Digital Camera') rather than show off my amazing writing talents!
` ...sigh.
` Is that
so unreasonable? Anyway, I do have lots of photos that I haven't yet put on my blog, some of them ones I couldn't put up before due to lack of proper photo-editing program.
` However... now that I have the amazing free photo-editing software known as the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), I can do anything I need in order to make my photos presentable! Hooray!!!

` Wish I'd thought of it earlier! Anyway, I just wanted to make a note to you all that the Naval Destroyer is back in its port. I discovered this last night when I looked outside and saw the familiar number 72....

` By the way, that strangely-shaped light at the bottom left is the roof of the Espresso hut in one of our driveways. Those things are everywhere around here: Out in the middle of the country, there are actually signs that read Straw, Fresh Eggs, Peaches, Espresso.

` Kinda funny, huh? I didn't think so.

` Anyway, it's incredibly overcast today, so this was all I could photograph of the great Abraham Lincoln. Since the resolution in my CDC is... well... pretty C, you can only barely make out the yellow crane and the sailboat that was passing behind it.

` If you will notice, there is an indistinct-looking structure on deck. That would be the partly-constructed gigantic pavillion, which tends to be erected during bad weather.
` I know, it's a really crummy picture, and yet I have so many good ones in my photo album! That is because they were taken with my Really Decent 35mm camera. My favorites are the ones taken in spring and fall where the sun is visible setting over the Olympic Mountains, or just afterwards, when the '72' is lit up - better yet is a shot with the moon setting, bloody and red. Also good are closeups of seagulls and sailboats going by, and even an F-18 on the deck!

` But I can't get them online. At least, not without spending hundreds of dollars.

` I'd better go, Phil needs his computer and I need to finish packing.

Spoony, number one I suggest that you invest in an inexpensive multifunction device for your print/copy/scan functionality. I have a nice lexmark that's got a flatbed scanner and a inkjet printer for about $65.

This is a newer version, but the same style as mine. Total should be about $60.

I like your picture of the Abraham Lincoln. It would be really neat to see an aircraft on the deck.

Is your GIMP software for a windows platform or are you running linux?

` Soup and celery! That is a sweet deal! Gee, I'll have to see about that.
` Also, as Phil doesn't have Linux, I'm running GIMP on Windows. On my new computer, I'm planning to have both... hee hee!

` Was supposed to have my piano out of here by now, but that hasn't happened.
` Phil's bummed out by me leaving, though at the same time he's glad he doesn't have to live with me anymore.
` It's pretty awkward.

` I really love taking pictures of stuff at night without a flash.
` This camera really sucks at it because it only has one shutter speed (and focal length, etc!), but at least it does lights fairly well.

On my first visit to Seattle I found it odd that even a hardware store would have an expresso machine.

Sounds like Phil is a mite confused.

` Well, mixed feelings at any rate. He's just used to me being around is all.

Goodness, isn't there an office scanner you can borrow? Maybe there's one at the lab or a friend has one? Some offices have a scanner attached to one computer for all to use.
