Sneak Peeks 13 - Scantily clad and skiing in snow

As you will recall from the last post, I was in the lead while Lou Ryan was cursing his deteriorating boots.

Oh hey... nice view! Almost at the top! And that's my shadow down there!

As you can see, I'm hanging onto the edge for dear life!

Eventually, I wound up cooling down a bit from being on such an exposed surface, so I had to put on a real shirt for a few minutes....

Nevertheless, Lou Ryan is skerred of cliffs and stayed in the little glass hut lashed to the boulders on the very tip of the mountain. That is because this hut - a mere gleam visible from the coast at sunset - is actually full of fun photos and facts!

But now, since it took an hour and a half to trudge up the mountain with many a backwards slide, how will we ever get back down without falling and breaking our necks?

How indeed! I call it 'snow booting'!

Er... well, it's not exactly skiing, but it seems to go just as fast. Except without all the control - look out!

It was a good thing too, because it was also a race against time....

That's right... little pockets of melting snow have created a breeding ground for mosquitoes, so we slid like hell out of there in all of fifteen minutes getting away from them!

Oooh I almost got it right with the skiing guess. Except it was without skiing and poles. Ok ok so it might not have been anywhere near it but I gave it a hard try anyway.
That is one huge seat you are sitting on at the edge of the mountain. You could have parachuted off the edge if you had brought a large hankie with you.
What photos and facts are there in the little hut?

It's kinda like a little museum - there's benches around the inside, except most of the benches have display panels of historical photographs and charts and such which tell the history of the mountains and important people and all that.
` I never actually stopped to look at it much, which is surprising, knowing how much I enjoy learning about the world around me. Must be the thin air....

Thanks for poppin' this post's comment-cherry!

Mmmm. Comment cherries.

It doesn't look very big either. Does someone maintain it or are hikers just trusted not to damage it? Hikers are a good bunch of people anyway. With all that wilderness and concealed areas it's hard to believe they could be up to any mischief :-P

As a matter of fact, I've been advised to carry a gun because of the increased incidence of killers and kidnappers in the wilderness around here.
` But, as far as I can tell, the little hut is not likely to be intentionally damaged by anyone because it is such a handy piece of shelter to hang out in and even spend the night.

Not to mention the bears and wolves trying to eat you!
You could do your Annie Oakley routine and take your big gun out and make them head for the hills, or mountains in this case, then Lou could become Grizzly Adams as he waits for The A-Team to come to the rescue with their homemade harpoon-mounted super tank.
Or you could just roll into a tight ball and pretend to be dead. You'll know what a testicle feels like then.

I think I already know what a testicle feels like, thank you very much!

HA! Yeah I didn't think that through enough did I :-)

Oh my gosh, in those last two pictures of you I swear you looked just like Lara Croft from Tomb Raider.

:-)

You appear to be an interesting person with an interesting life -- also, a startling ability to get terrific camera angles of yourself without looking through a viewfinder. Thanks for sharing!

What fun! I'd be scared of those cliffs too. Make room for me in the glass hut. Loved the pictures. Looks like you had a great time. :D

Thanks, guys! Never fancied myself looking much like Lara Croft. I mean, all I did was walk up a mountain without much clothings on. Anyone can do that. And there's always room in the glass hut for one more ^^
